FAQs
How will it feel to have a birth photographer in the room?
The decision around who to invite into your birth team should not be taken lightly. As someone who is well educated about birth and deeply reveres the sacredness of the undisturbed birth space, I bring intuitive knowing around how to balance documenting your birth, giving space, and stepping in for support as it may be needed.
What should I wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable in! Most of my clients will pick out a nice sports bra or bralette if they are wanting to be able to share the photos publicly.
What about sharing photos publicly?
I deeply believe that birth storytelling is a powerful tool in changing the cultural paradigm around birth. That being said, the decision to share your birth story and photos is always up to you. As part of my online gallery, you are able to mark which photos you would like to keep private and which photos you may be open to me sharing. I will always get your explicit permission before I share anything.
What about lighting?
Most women want to give birth in a low-light setting. I use only the highest caliber gear that was specifically created to work well in low-light situations. I will sometimes slightly adjust the lighting or use a non-invasive flash that is bounced off the ceiling to get those beautiful crisp images. Most people say they didn’t even notice I was taking photos, let alone using a flash.
When should I book you?
As soon as you know your due date! I only take about 2-3 clients a month so reaching out as soon as possible will ensure that you are one of them. You can schedule a consultation by messaging me here.
What goes into the cost?
Unlike a portrait session or even wedding photography, I am not able to schedule the day and time that you will need me to show up for you. I am on call from 37 weeks until baby is ready to be born. Sometimes I may be at a birth for 5 hours or for 30, there is no way to forsee how long a birth will take. This requires a certain commitment and lifestyle to ensure I will always be available to serve my clients. Besides the time of being on call and being at your birth, I typically spend around 20 hours in post production processing, editing, and delivering birth galleries or films. My cost also ensures I maintain the highest quality equipment, software, insurance, gallery viewing space, and much more.
