Postpartum Tips from New Moms
Make your bedroom beautiful and functional so that you actually want to rest in there for a long time - plants, art, upgrade bed & bedding if you are able. A wedge pillow is nice for extra upright support in bed.
Set up a cart beside your bed to hold all of your postpartum essentials to limit getting up and walking around in the first weeks postpartum.
Put a large trashcan in your room so that the trash doesn’t pile up on the floor / to save you trips to your kitchen trash.
Accept help when it’s offered! Even if you feel like you can do it yourself, just say yes to the offering of help.
If someone asks what they can do for you, tell them it would be so helpful if they organized a meal train for you.
Eat nourishing foods but also know that postpartum is not the time to be on a diet. Consuming enough calories is crucial for breastmilk production so eat what you want!
Expect and allow the demands of newborn care to transform your heart into deeper service and compassion. Motherhood is a practice of selflessness and that’s so incredibly concentrated in the first 6 weeks of postpartum.
Don’t be afraid to take the space you need! For example, I wish my family would have given me more space in the early days of postpartum, sometimes I felt weird telling them to go even though I wanted them to leave.
Take it slow!! I made the mistake of walking around my backyard in my first week postpartum and I hurt for days.
Breastfeeding can be really hard but don’t give up because it is so worth it!!
